Quilt renda

Why sewing

Sewing needs passion and lasting interest to make it happened. I’m a person that likes new things. Not to always buying something new (bankrupt lol!), but exploring new things in my life. Sometimes when you really put your thoughts, efforts and mind you will surprise with what you can do.
Before sewing I’m also considering other area to do.  Wedding handicraft,   glass painting and ceramic painting.  But  not considering cooking or baking. Even though trying new recipes seems fun enough. Thai,  Baba & Nyonya   and Western  Food is kind of my favorites. The reason, washing the dishes is quite a big problem to me, same as ironing. However, I chose sewing because of my love to fabric. And I remember being nosy around when my mother doing her sewing job. Sometimes I played with the sewing tools. Last time we don’t have so many toys I guess.

Cara membuat bantal peluk

Bunny friends

This is one of my early project. I got the inspiration from this book entitled New Look of Needle Art, which I bought long time ago back in 2006. It was meant for the wall art, a series of embroided bunny hanging on the wall.  However, because of the project complexity I twisted the project by putting the embroided bunny inside the frame.

Sometimes when bought books it will give different inspiration. Always I  look at the book design but will end up with totally different ideas.  I found that book still gives detail information compared on those available on the internet. Of course, there are some amount that we have to pay to acquire knowledge.
These 2 bunnies  are  handmade,  basic knowledge on types of embroidery should be known if interested to make it. Satin stitch,  french knots, outline and fly are types of embroidery used for the project.

I intend to make the whole project again, like that being featured in the book. However I might use my brilliant sewing machine (got so many pattern stitches) to complete the project.

How to make ruffle

Process of making ruffle pillow

Step 1

To make the ruffle look neat,  double the measurement of the fabric strip based on measurement of the pillow cover).

Example: Pillow width is 70 cm and 50 cm length, therefore double the measurement (2x70cm) + (2x50cm) = 240 cm (equals to 2.4 m)

Step 2

After that,  sew edge of the fabric  stripes  using over edge machine. Then fold the other side of the fabric so the ruffles will look more neat.

Step 3
Use your fingers to create ruffles.  Don't create pleat. Pleat is different from ruffles.

Step 4

I'm doing 2 layers ruffle. After finish the blue ruffles then I'm repeating the whole process to create yellow ruffles.  Sew the blue ruffles and yellow ruffle together depend on which colour you want to put it on top.

Step 5
Next step is attach the ruffle to the pillow cover. Sew the ruffle together with  the 2 cover together (sew the wrong side of fabric). However this time to look more neat I sew ruffle to the back of the pillow cover.

Step 6

Sew together the right side of the fabric and put the ruffles in the middle.
Step 7
This is the finished result. Hope the tutorials can help you to make the ruffle in your sewing task.
